Tri-Cities to Host the H1 Unlimited Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony


Tri-Cities (December 28, 2017) – The Tri-City Water Follies is excited to announce the 53rd annual H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Racing Series “Champion’s Gala” will be held in the Tri-Cities. This will be the first time the gala will be held in the Tri-Cities region since the sport’s inaugural awards presentation in 1964.

“We are thrilled to have been selected to host the event “, said Water Follies event director Kathy Powell. “The Tri-Cities has been Race site of the Year for the past three consecutive years and recipient of the Chairman’s Award of Excellence prior to that. We love our Hydroplane racing and look forward to welcoming the racing teams to our community.”

Fans will have a chance to mingle with the world’s fastest drivers during a welcome reception which kicks off the evening Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Red Lion Hotel at Columbia Center, Kennewick.

J. Michael Kelly, who will be in attendance – and in July won the HAPO Columbia Cup driving the U-12 “Graham Trucking” hydroplane – said, “the awards evening is a time when our entire industry, along with our passionate fan base, come together to formally recognize our high-points champion and celebrate a memorable season.

The annual Champion’s Gala celebrates and commemorates the 2017 H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Racing Series season and will included the presentation of the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Series national championship trophy, the Gold Cup and much more. display_2015More Than Testing This Week For The Unlimited Hydroplanes – (May 27, 2015)

Kennewick, Wash.—With the Tri City Water Follies getting ready for the first test session of the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane seasonFriday (May 29), two of the four boats will also be getting a jump on the publicity wagon.

The U-9 Les Schwab /Red Dot team along with driver Scott Liddycoat will be at the Les Schwab Tire Center in Pasco on Court Street  tomorrow (May 28) at approximately noon until 4 p.m.

Liddycoat, a new driver for the U-9 team, will be signing autographs. This marks the second year the U-9 team will be on the Columbia River for spring testing.

On Saturday (May 30) from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., the U-7 Graham Trucking team along with its new driver Jesse Robertson will be at the Meyers Auto Tech at 1120 N Grant Pl. in Kennewick. Robertson will also be signing autographs.

Four teams and five drivers have committed to the testing session. The U- 9 with Liddycoat, the U-96 Ellstrom Racing with Jean Theoret, the U-12 Miss DiJulio  with rookie driver Patrick Sankuer along with drivers Robertson and J. Michael Kelly both piloting the U-7 will take to the river for multiple test runs from 9:00 am to 5 pm.
