Jason tells us he was going for an aggressive, gritty, “in your face” design for 2017, inspired by the attitude of the F-22.

Local 598 – Plumbers and Steamfitters and Signatory Contractors Now in Seventh Year of Water Follies Partnership

The Tri-Cities Water Follies is once again proud to be partnered with Local Union 598 Plumbers and Steamfitters, and their Signatory Contractors. This is the seventh year of sponsorship from Local 598 and Water Follies Director Kathy Powell couldn’t be happier. “We’ve had such a great relationship with the Plumbers and Steamfitters. I’m so glad we are extending that relationship again this year. They’ve been such an advocate for the Water Follies and for the Tri-Cities in general,” she said.

This year, as in the past few years, Local Union 598 and their Signatory Contractors will sponsor the Grand Prix West Thunder Cup. The Grand Prix Hydroplane is a fan-favorite and known for their automotive engines and the roar they produce.

Local 598 Plumbers and Steamfitters also announced that they are once again offering a special opportunity to the area’s Gold Star military families – This invitation to watch the HAPO Columbia Cup and Over the River Air Show from the comfort of the Local’s hospitality tent while enjoying lunch and refreshments with their members, is a show of honor and support that has become a tradition for them, now in its 4th year. The offer also includes free admission and special pit access for the Gold Star families. Gold Star Families are those who have lost a family member in military service.

“The Fitters” as they are informally known, are a community, family based organization. As stated on their website, “Our members and contractors are very proud of the communities we live and work in. Involvement is a core principal of our organization. Our members are teachers, coaches, reserve firefighters, active and reserve military just to name a few. The membership of Local Union 598 strives to improve the quality of life for our families and communities.”

The HAPO Columbia Cup and Over the River Air Show is July 28- 30, 2017.

Big News Over the River for 2017

The Tri-Cities Water Follies has some big, big news for fans, the F-22 Raptor, the United States Air Force’s newest fighter aircraft will be appearing in the Tri-Cities at this year’s HAPO Columbia Cup and Over the River Airshow. This is a major “get” says Kathy Powell, Director of the Water Follies. “These planes are the top of the top, the coolest of the coolest,” she said. “Folks on the river shore are in store for a show like we haven’t seen here.”

The F-22’s are part of the Air Combat Command F-22 Demonstration Team, based out of Langley Air Force Base. The team performs precision aerial maneuvers to demonstrate the unique capabilities. The F-22 engines produce more thrust than any current fighter engine. The combination of design and increased thrust allows the F-22 to cruise at supersonic airspeeds (greater than 1.5 Mach) without using afterburner — a characteristic known as supercruise.

This team performs at some of the top air shows around the country, said Powell. “To have them perform for us in the Tri-Cities is a testament to the history and draw of our event. We couldn’t be prouder.”

The 2017 HAPO Columbia Cup and Over the River Air Show is July 28 – July 30.
